How was everyone's weekend? Mine was uneventful aside from ten sreaming children, many trick-or-treaters and their screaming parents, etc. etc. etc. I have no patience sometimes. As some of you know, I quit smoking a few months ago and noticed my teeth were not exactly white. Embarrassing? Of course. I started using a product I found online ( because I'm an online junkie).

Some of you may ask, why should I worry about my teeth right now? Oh, but you should!

Ok, not that bad; but I'm slowly reaching that point. :-)

Some causes of yellow/stained teeth are:
-Smoking/ chewing tobacco
-Too much soda
-Too much coffee
-Certain antiseptic mouthwashes
-Dental plaque and tartar
-Colored organic compounds in certain foods

Many people don't realize what having discolored teeth results in. Not only does it look yucky when smiling, but many people see that as a reflection of your personal hygiene. It can affect what people you attract or what interviewer you impress for a job.

Hey everyone,

It has been a long week, so forgive my absence here. I hope everybody's doing great. So here's my mommy scoop...my baby girl is starting to potty train! I may have her doing this a little early, but I would prefer to get her started now and hope she learns what to do very soon. Poor thing! I'm like a potty training dictator.

1) The Infant Method

-This is the most utilized form of potty training, I think, in the world. When doing this, the parent basically holds the child over the toilet when the child has started going. By doing this repeatedly, the baby will learn that when feeling certain sensations; it's time to make his/her way to the toilet.

2) The "Practice Until you Get it Right" Method

-Unlike the infant method, this is a gradual, patient method. It involves introducing the child to the toilet a little at a time. As a parent, you would give them a reward when making progress and hold regular class sessions. :-)

3) Potty Training in One Day Method

-Use a little doll to demonstrate the appropriate actions taken when using a toilet. Make your child understand both positive and negative consequences.

4) She Will Go When She's Ready Method

-This method has the parent demonstrate all the tools necessary to the child. It works under the hope that once the child knows what to do, he/she will essentially train themselves by doing.

5) The Naked Method

-Not the smartest choice by any means! This method requires the parent to do a constant training for 3-5 days with the child running around naked. You would direct them to the toilet ASAP when he/she starts going.

It's Friday! It's Friday! How exciting. The whole thing is going to pass me by as I sit in class, but that's ok. I've been getting some great feedback from a few people on these articles, so today we're going to work with weight loss. I can't say much in that area now since I'm pregnant and far from watching my figure. I can say that when I was not pregnant, I had a lot of success with several products which I'll mention shortly. I know the best thing to do is diet and exercise, but I have no time for that. It's great for all those people who can go to the gym for five hours and eat a celery stick after, but that's not my cup of tea.

Hey guys,

The weekend is almost here!!! YAY!!!! Although what I'm writing about today may seem like it came out of left field to some of you, it is actually important to me. I currently have (and have had) a lot of family members who are disabled in some way. Unfortunately, when you do not have health insurance, you're not left with many options for help. For this reason, I wanted to post some offers for medical equipment. I don't think we really take enough time to be thankful for our health. Hey everybody!

So my morning sickness has gotten a lot worse over the past week. My apologies to Anne for throwing up in your BMW yesterday! lol. Well, no, i'm not really sorry...just being polite. I know, how terrible. Anyhow, my little bump is starting to come out and my 16 month old is looking at me like I'm an alien because of it. Eventually I'll explain where babies come from. (dreading that day)Anyhow, I've been bringing out all my old maternity clothes to get the dust off. I went to the mall to see about getting some new ones. Forget that! Don't they know we're in a recession???

Happy Tuesday guys! Today I'm going over insomnia, since I've had it for about 15 years. It's a beautiful thing, really. I can't say I don't have enough time to get everything done. haha. I know that a good portion of America does not get eight hours of sleep a night. I think that's a safe assumption. I've looked up sleeping disorders so many times over the years, but for those of you who don't know much about it; here's some info. from Yahoo! Health.

Happy Monday everybody!

I hope someone was able to relax over the weekend, because I sure did not! I feel like I'm 50! (I'm only in my 20's, so sad) Anyhow, I was doing some research on some beauty products to get rid of blemishes/wrinkles etc. I know these are just luxuries financially at this point, but I'm just racking up stuff online for free. So is anyone seeing the pattern I'm trying to show. As a former smoker, it pains me to see everyone else smoking around me. I want one! :0) Just kidding. It kills me because I have to deal with the headaches, the wheezing, and everything classy that goes along with it. What bothers me is that someone could be trying to quit smoking and then see Brad Pitt do and change their mind completely.

Heidi Klum met Seal in 2004, and the couple married a year later.

The "Project Runway" host gave birth Friday night. Klum and Seal named their new bundle Lou Sulola Samuel.
The couple, who married in 2005, have been busy babymaking ever since. Lou Sulola is the youngest of four: Henri, 4, Johan, 2 and Leni, 5, whom Klum had from a previous relationship.
"It's difficult to imagine loving another child as much as you love your existing children," Seal said of the birth in a statement Tuesday. "Anyone who has a family will tell you this. Where will one find that extra love? If you love your existing children with all of your heart, how then can one possibly find more heart with which to love another?"
The answer to that question, the Grammy-winning singer said, "came in the form of our fourth child and second daughter.
"Lou Sulola Samuel was born, and from the moment she looked into both of our eyes, it was endless love at first sight. She is beautiful beyond words, and we are happy that she chose us to watch her grow over the coming years," he said.

Reality Show Model Denies Punching Ex-Boyfriend

A model who appears on Bravo's "Real Housewives of New York City" is facing charges that she punched an ex-boyfriend and left a bloody gash on his face.

Kelly Killoren Bensimon, 40, was arrested in Manhattan last week on a misdemeanor assault charge after her 30-year-old ex-boyfriend Nicholas Stefanov told police she assaulted him.

Killoren Bensimon surrendered Thursday, two days after the alleged assault. A misdemeanor complaint says she hit Stefanov with her fist in her apartment.

She was released without bail after her arraignment on a third-degree assault charge.

Her lawyer, Stephen Turano, didn't return a call for comment, but the Daily News quoted him as saying she denies the allegations. He called Stefanov "a jilted lover."

Stefanov told the Daily News that he still loves Killoren Bensimon. He said the pressure of being on the hit reality TV show caused her to snap and punch him during an argument.

He said she "had the courtesy to take her (engagement) ring off first," the News reported, adding she also returned it to him that night.

Stefanov's friends told the New York Post he went to his hometown of Pittsburgh because he was embarrassed to be seen in New York with a black eye and cut face.

Killoren Bensimon was married to French photographer Gilles Bensimon until 2006. They have two daughters, ages 10 and 8. She has modeled for Elle, Mademoiselle, Cosmopolitan and Harper's Bazaar, and has edited several magazines.

The very public saga of octuplet mom Nadya Suleman has taken a lurid turn.

According to TMZ.com, Suleman has been offered $1 million by major porn distributor Vivid Entertainment to star in a porn movie.

Suleman became the subject of heavy scrutiny after the birth of the octuplets last month, after it was revealed that she already had six children. All 14 were conceived through in-vitro fertilization.

Vivid told TMZ that the company will give her family full medical and dental insurance if she becomes a "contract girl." According to the celebrity gossip Web site, that would mean Suleman would have to do "multiple videos."

TMZ said there was no word on whether Suleman was considering the offer.

Meanwhile, Suleman appears to have bigger worries than taking care of her 14 children.

Talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw said that she may have to prove she can handle the load, or else have hospital officials withhold her newborn octuplets.

McGraw said the 33-year-old unemployed mother called him Tuesday. She was distraught that Kaiser Permanente officials told her they were concerned about the babies living at her home near Los Angeles.

Property records show Suleman's mother is more than $23,000 behind on mortgage payments and the home is under threat of foreclosure.

Kaiser officials won't comment on Suleman's case.

Suleman has taped two episodes of McGraw's "Dr. Phil" show.

Conditioner

Defrizzer

Use: Hand or body lotion, face moisturizer, or lip balm.

To avoid an oil-slick look, rub a drop between your hands first, then smooth it lightly over your hair. Lipstick

Use: Blush.

How to: Cream or powder blush dabbed on lips with a finger creates a soft, sensual look. For a creamier texture, top blush with clear gloss or a lip balm, says Carol Shaw.

It works in reverse, too: Use lipstick as blush. Keep in mind that lipstick has much more pigment than blush, says Joli Baker, president of the cosmetics company Pür Minerals, in Atlanta, Georgia. To avoid going overboard, start with a tiny dab, then gradually increase the color. Add a bit of moisturizer to blend it in

Eye shadow

Use: Bronzer.

How to: Shades like sienna, copper, and bronze complement all eye colors, according to Joli Baker. One caveat: A little bronzer goes a long way. Use a cotton swab to dust it just along the creases of your eyes and under the lower lashes; loading it on can turn your lids the color of candied yams.

Hair Spray

Use: Styling gel.

How to: Hair spray works like styling gel in a spray form, says River Lloyd, a stylist with the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon, in New York. If you normally use hair spray to smooth frizz or add hold, wet your hands lightly with a little gel, shape your hair the way you want it, then air-dry to lock the style in place.

Cuticle Cream

Use: Oil.

How to: Most any type of oil -- baby, olive, avocado, or the contents of a vitamin E capsule -- massaged into the cuticles will work, says Mark G. Rubin, a dermatologist in Beverly Hills, California. "It's really just the fact that you're putting on something oily to hold in water and moisture that matters," he says.

Concealer

Use: The thick residue left in the rings around the top of a foundation bottle.

How to: Moisture that was in the foundation has evaporated, and what's left over is more concentrated -- like concealer, says Troy Surratt, a makeup artist for Maybelline New York. The trick to getting even coverage: Pat it on and blend it with your ring finger. Since that finger applies the least pressure, you're unlikely to gob on too much.

Eyeliner

Use: Eye shadow.

How to: Dampen an eyeliner brush with water, dip it in blue or brown eye shadow, and drag the brush along your upper lashes. Another option: mascara. With your eye closed, touch the tip of the mascara wand along the lash line of the upper lid, smudging quickly (mascara dries in seconds) with your finger or a cotton swab. The effect will be smoky, and you'll get more definition along the lash line, says Tasha Reiko Brown.

Foot Cream

Use: Petroleum jelly.

How to: To soften serious calluses, apply a thick coat and slip on a pair of cotton socks before bed. Dermatologists love petroleum jelly for its ability to seal in moisture and encourage healing. 1. A safe crib. we recommend a crib over a bassinet or cradle, even to start with, because it’s considered the safest sleep environment for a baby. Cribs are federally regulated and manufacturers must also follow voluntary safety standards. Bassinets and cradles only have voluntary safety standards that regulate them. The AAP recommends room sharing for baby’s first six months. Make room for a crib in your bedroom. If you don’t have the space, a bassinet or cradle is the next best thing.

2. Crib mattress. For most parents, this purchase is an afterthought. But since babies sleep a lot—up to 18 hours daily initially, it’s important to buy a good crib mattress. The safest are super firm. When you pushing them in, they spring back immediately. Either foam or innerspring work well. What’s too firm for adults is just right babies. 9. Pacifier. The AAP recommends pacifiers to help reduce the risk of SIDS. There are so many to choose from. We recommend silicone because babies can develop a sensitivity or allergy to latex. Silicone also holds up longer. To start, buy several different brands/types and experiment. If your baby doesn’t like a pacifier, though, don’t force him to use one.

MYTH The more foam a shampoo produces, the cleaner your hair's getting, right? Not exactly. You may love working up a good head on your head, but those suds are mostly created for psychological effect (Oooh, it's cleaning!). Foaming occurs when surfactant molecules in the shampoo mix with air and create tons of tiny bubbles. Ideally, your head should have only enough lather to lubricate the hair and scalp, so a quarter-size blob of shampoo will usually do the trick.

"You should use a clarifying formula to get rid of buildup."
PARTLY FACT Unless you're using heavy-duty styling products, like pomade, mousse, or gel, regular shampooing prevents styling-product residue from collecting on your hair. If you do need a clarifier, don't use it more than once a week. These detergent-heavy cleansers, which do such a great job of removing buildup, will also do a great job of damaging the hair cuticle.

"Washing every day can be bad for your hair."
MOSTLY MYTH "Daily washing is safe and healthy," says Mort Westman, the cosmetics chemist. Poor Safety Ratings For 13 Booster Seats

Several car booster seats do a poor job of positioning children to fit in their seat belts, according to a review by the insurance industry and researchers.

The Virginia-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute found Wednesday that 13 booster seats don’t put children in the best position to be protected in a crash.

The Institute, which conducts crash tests of new vehicles, did not recommend: Compass B505, Compass B510, Cosco/Dorel Traveler, Evenflo Big Kid Confidence, Safety Angel Ride Ryte, Cosco/Dorel Alpha Omega, Cosco/Dorel (Eddie Bauer) Summit, Cosco Highback Booster, Dorel/Safety 1st (Eddie Bauer) Prospect, Evenflo Chase Comfort Touch, Evenflo Generations, Graco CarGo Zephyr, and Safety 1st/Dorel Intera. IIHS President Adrian Lund said the 13 boosters “may increase restraint use by making children more comfortable, but they don’t position belts for optimal protection.”

Child seat manufacturers said their products meet and exceed federal regulations. Dorel Juvenile Group said it “welcomes the opportunity to review the evaluation conducted by the IIHS.”

Graco Children’s Products said in a statement that “safety is always a top priority and nothing is more important than the well-being of the children who use our products.”

It was the first time the Institute issued evaluations for booster seats. Lund said they chose not to review crash protection because the seats simply elevate children so lap and shoulder belts are well-positioned to restrain them.

Booster seats are typically used by children between the ages of 4 and 8. The seat belt is meant to be routed across a child’s lower hips and mid-shoulders instead of the abdomen because the liver and spleen are more vulnerable to injuries.

Russ Rader, an IIHS spokesman, said two of the seats not recommended by the Institute, the Costco Highback Booster and the Safety 1st/Dorel Intera, had been discontinued. The IIHS evaluated 41 seats that represented a majority of the market when the evaluations were conducted in the summer of 2007. Evaluations for all the seats are available on their Web site.

Institute also names 'best bets'
The IIHS called 10 seats “best bets,” meaning they were most likely to correctly position seat belts. They include: Combi Kobuk, Fisher-Price Safe Voyage (with plastic clip), Graco TurboBooster, Britax Monarch, Britax Parkway, Fisher-Price Safe Voyage (highback), LaRoche Bros. Teddy Bear, Recaro Young Style, Volvo booster cushion and Safeguard Go when it’s used as a backless booster.

Five seats were named “good bets” to provide acceptable belt fit. They include: highbacks Combi Kobuk, Graco TurboBooster and Safety Angel Ride Ryte, and combinations Recaro Young Sport and Safety 1st/Dorel Apex 65, when used as highbacks.

Dr. Kristy Arbogast, who researches child passenger safety issues at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said parents should not interpret the evaluations to mean that poorly rated seats are not effective.

“The biggest disservice this would do is to encourage people to move out of booster seats because we know they’re an effective restraint, we know they reduce the risk of injury and the risk of fatality,” Arbogast said.

Arbogast suggested that parents buying a new booster seat should try it out in their car and see how the seat belt fits on their child.

The government recommends car seats for children up to 40 pounds and booster seats for children over 40 pounds until they are 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall. All children should ride in the back seat until age 13.

Byrne adds that the goal is to make the dummy receptors strike a balance, not holding the drug too tight, but also only releasing it slowly into the eye. For commercializing the idea, Byrne has set up a company called OcuMedic. The company is already developing anti-fungal contact lenses for treating eye infections in horses.
